20+4 Anatomy Scan

On Monday we had our anatomy scan - I was 20 weeks and 4 days. Prior to my appointment I did as instructed and drank at least 36 ounces of water at least an hour before my appointment. Boy did I need to pee!!! Didn’t help that when we got there the first place we went to was the bathroom for Matt and then in the waiting room I heard the toilet flush. *Sigh* But I made it through with no issues.
When we finally got called back for the ultrasound (I say finally because we showed up 30 minutes early), I laid on the bed/table and pulled my pants down to below my private area and placed the sheet over myself up to my belly per the technician's instructions. The technician then squirted some of the warm gel onto my belly and it was time to see our baby.

Highlights include:
He's still a baby boy! (At this point I would have been disappointment if my elected gender reveal had been wrong.)
Heart rate is still consistent at 153 bpm. (That's 3 appointments at this rate.)
He weighs approximately 13 ounces which is right where he should be according to the technician.
His spine looks normal.
Hands and feet looked good.

After she took a bunch of pictures and showed us different things, she had me empty my bladder in hopes of waking up my sleeping baby boy. Not only was he sleeping, but he was evidently standing on my bladder and was almost curled in a ball. Because he was in this position, she needed to wake him up in order to get some pictures of his face, heart and kidneys.
So I emptied my bladder (which felt wonderful) and I came back to the bed/table and we started the process again. She tried tapping him and prodding him awake and he simply wasn’t having it. He was either in a deep sleep or else he really was hungry per the technician's guess. Meaning, I get to have another anatomy scan in hopes of seeing these few areas. The technician told us when I go to my next doctor appointment they would schedule the appointment. Sounded good to me. I am happy to see my baby boy again. Had he of cooperated, this would have been our last time seeing him unless there are any complications. Which obviously, I am hoping none arise.

Driving home from work yesterday I got a call from my doctor's nurse. She told me my doctor said everything she could see looked good, but they did want to schedule my second anatomy scan prior to my next appointment on July 9. Again, no problem with me. I booked it for right prior to my appointment on the 9th.
I will be exactly 23 weeks on this appointment and I am curious to see how much he grows in that short amount of time. Hopefully everything looks normal with these three areas we are trying to see this time.

In other news, I bought my baby boy some toys off of a Facebook yard sale website:

*Crappy phone pictures, but you get the idea.
I paid $30 for everything you see which is three different Fisher Price Little People sets. Per Amazon, this would have cost me over $100 had I bought them new. The lady even kept the boxes as you can see... I won't be keeping them though.
Talk about a good deal!
I also bought him two books today: The Monster at the End of this Book and Are You My Mother. I paid about $5 for them on Amazon and received two separate $2 Kindle credits for selecting no rush delivery. I plan on ordering more books on Amazon if they continue to do this deal. Gotta love being an Amazon prime member! Since I get some new Kindle books, this is a better deal then me buying them at Goodwill. At least cheaper on some books. I still have a long list of my childhood favorites I am on the hunt for and will continue searching a good deal. I am very excited to read to my son nightly. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did/do.

Baby Mail-In Offers

In a previous post from HERE, I talked about ordering the following baby products/samples from four companies. These are my own opinions... I did not receive compensation... I am posting this to possibly help others make a decision as to whether or not to order these items.

Walmart 2nd Trimester Baby Box $5
Considering this is a second trimester box, the two coupons on the left are not anything I will be able to use anytime soon. Perhaps the formula one on the top left will be useful if I am unable to breast feed. The bottle/pacifier coupons may get used by me. The lotion coupon on the right doesn't seem very useful for a baby. However, it could be useful to use on my belly.
The best items from this box were the Burt Bee's samples.
Overall, I am undecided if this was worth my $5. I am going to allow one more box to be sent to me, but I will cancel it if there isn't anything good.

Citrus Lane Box (at half off) $14.50
I was looking forward to this box the most. Such a disappointment!!!
You can see the four items I received. Honestly, with the exception of the book, I wouldn't have bought any of these items. I am extremely glad this box was half off and not at the full price of $29. I would have been mad.
The stroller cards are worthless and look like something I would have gotten out of a yummy Chick-fil-a kids meal and the stuffed animal looks sad and cheap despite being made of Egyptian cotton. The lip item seems out of place in a box of baby items don't you think?

Everyday Happy Trial Diaper Kit and Family Care Kit $5.95
This box is decent if I was actually willing to pay retail price for a subscription for these products. They are simply too expensive. For the almost $6 I spent I could have bought a small amount of diapers. However, I was interested in getting this sample in case my baby has allergies to other diapers and this way we could test these ones out immediately.

Honest Company Trial Diaper and Wipes Bundle $5.95
See box number 3 for my opinions on these products. I feel the same way with them as I did with those.

Overall, not impressed. Glad I only spent $30 trying everything out. I do plan on using most of these items once I have my baby boy so they wont go to waste. (Except for the stroller cards which seem worthless.)
Again, these are just my opinions. You may love these products and companies. If so, please do feel offended by my comments.

Half Way There @ 20 Weeks

How far along: 20 weeks

Fruit-size comparison: Banana

Length: Approximately 16.5 cm long from crown to rump. Half my ruler!

Developmental milestones: Baby boy's ears are perfectly formed. He should be able to hear my voice now. Doesn’t matter... I have always talked to him when I am alone. He will DEFINETLY know his mommy's voice. Plus, I talk a lot in general - just ask my husband.

Maternity clothes: I'm still able to wear some of my pre-pregnancy shirts (divided them into a section within my closet), but I am fully in maternity pants/shorts unless I am wearing stretchy material pants/shorts. I am even having co-workers and MY BOSS notice my stomach getting bigger. LOL!

Weight gain: I'll find out Monday when I go to the doctor's office.

Stretch Marks: I am seeing some 'clear/translucent' stretch marks on the sides of my stomach. I am just hoping all the lotion I keep using on it helps. If not, I guess I have some 'battle wounds'.

Sleep: I fall asleep just fine and typically stay asleep except to pee three or four times a night.

Best moment of the week: Feeling flutters in my stomach. I KNOW I am feeling him for sure. The other night, while lying in bed after going pee, I felt a flutter and then I instantly had to go pee again. Pretty sure baby boy kicked or hit my bladder because the feeling was almost instant. It was odd. I even mentioned it to Matt who was almost asleep. He's funny when he re-tells the story. If you know him, ask him about it. "Matt are you awake???"

Movement: Lots of fluttering... especially in the late afternoon and early evening. Guess this is when he is wide awake.

Cravings: Nothing really. Although I did see a commercial for Zaxby's birthday cake milkshake and it has been on my mind ever since I saw the commercial.  I plan on getting me one this weekend. Hope it tastes as good as it looks. I fear I will be very disappointed if it doesn’t.

Gender: It's a BOY!!!

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding ring: Still loosely on.

Anything making you queasy/sick: Feeling great! Only seem to feel ill when others drive (at least this was the case two weeks ago when I rode in the car with Matt). I haven’t tested this out recently. I am going to attempt to ride my vanpool next week and see how I feel.

What I miss: Nothing that I can think of at the moment.

What I'm looking forward to: Monday we have our anatomy scan which I was able to book for after my husband is off work so we will BOTH get to see our baby boy! They say no cameras or recording devices so it is going to be hard to remember all the measurements and everything else I am told. I hope they print some information off for me. I am NOT looking forward to having a minimum of 36 ounces of water in me for at least an hour before the appointment. Not sure how well I am going to be able to hold it all in.

Labor signs: None

Symptoms: Motion sickness in the car when others drive (I think).

Nursery: This is taking a backseat for a moment. We are discussing a lot of options right now so unless I see an awesome deal, I'm going to try and not buy anything. This is very hard, but extremely doable. In the meantime, I'll just stick with looking for the small stuff like clothes and toys and books. My baby boy NEEDS a full library of books in order to be a bookworm like me. I plan on introducing books to him at a very early age.

Emotions: I can now see why they saw pregnant people are emotional.
Short Story time....
Several weeks ago, we had a big bag of Rolos and Matt was giving me one serving of them. Well, he didn’t give me the full serving telling me they were for him so I cried. Like a big baby! Happened again last week when he wouldn’t give me the bag of chocolate covered pretzels. Seriously, I'm one of those people who cry over food?!?!?! WTH?!?!!?
Then this morning, on my way to work, I had to fully stop to not hit a momma deer and her baby crossing the road. The momma deer went to the right and the baby deer never crossed the road and went to the left. I teared up and wanted to cry because I feared the momma wouldn’t find her baby. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I even asked GOD to help the momma find her baby. And guess what? As stupid as it sounds, I think GOD gave me a sign. About 10 minutes later into my drive (on the same road), I had to fully stop again because guess what? Another momma deer and her baby were crossing the road. This time, they both made it to the right side of the street. WOW! A sign right? A sign that the first momma deer found her baby deer!

18 Weeks With My Baby Boy

How far along: 18 weeks

Fruit-size comparison: Sweet Potato or Bell Pepper

Length: Approximately 14.2 cm head to bottom (I assume this means to toe???).

Developmental milestones: Baby's bones are getting stronger and are less like cartilage.

Maternity clothes: I bought 4 more shirts two weekends ago from Old Navy so I am good on shirts. Still only have the one pair of work pants. I desperately need at least another pair. I can't deal with my jeans anymore. They are simply too tight even when not buttoned. I have sat at work all day today with my pants unbuttoned with the zipper almost all the way down. Comfortable when I sit, but they don’t stay up when I have to walk to the printer or bathroom. I'm done wearing them.

Weight gain: I believe 9 pounds total. More than I would like to have gained by now. On Monday I will have the official weight gain amount since I have a doctor appointment and I am hoping for it to be less than that amount. Of course, considering how often I eat, I shouldn’t be surprised.

Stretch Marks: I don’t think I have any from the pregnancy yet. It was suggested to me by two people to start lathering on the cocoa or coconut butter now. Guess I need to buy some this weekend.

Sleep: Same - I usually wake 3 times a night to go to pee. Doesn’t matter if I stop drinking liquids several hours before bedtime. The issue is I tend to have a hard time falling back to sleep. Mostly because Wyatt's hot body is up against mine and even when I move away from him, I hear him slowly wiggle towards me until we are touching again. It would be cute if I wasn’t already hot and tired....

Best moment of the week: Telling our family the gender of the baby last Saturday.

Movement: I am pretty sure I have been feeling him the last few weeks.

Cravings: Nothing in particular. I am just constantly hungry in general. I prefer 'solid' foods opposed to fruits and veggies with lots of water.

Gender: It's a BOY!!!

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding ring: This hasn't changed for me. Same amount of looseness as before. I still worry about it slipping off my finger and me losing it. After the baby comes, I plan to get it sized properly.

Anything making you queasy/sick: Thanks to my wonderful husband getting me started on protein shakes, I haven’t been sick since last Thursday. Baby boy must have needed more protein. HOWEVER, I still get motion sickness in the car. I do seem to do better when I drive opposed to someone else driving. Which sucks because I don’t enjoy driving everywhere but I guess I need to try. I am going to stop taking my vanpool into work too. I hate feeling sick at the beginning of my work day. On the flip side, I hate wasting gas money when I don’t have to.

What I miss: My pants not being tight. But I'm not complaining... I am SOOO happy to be pregnant with my baby boy. Plus, I can rectify this issue with the purchase of some additional pants.

What I'm looking forward to: Holding my baby boy for the first time! Seeing him smile at me. :)

Labor signs: None

Symptoms: Motion sickness in the car.

Nursery: Walls are already teal/aqua which I had no intention in changing regardless of the gender. Matt suggested if we were having a boy to make the room walls 'under the sea' . Awesome idea! And now Matt wants sharks in the room. I am going to make it nautical with sharks. But not too theme-ish. Colors will be teal/aqua, navy blue, white and accents of gray.
Meaning, no giraffes in this room. *Sigh* I guess I'll have to pass on my love of giraffes to my next child.

Emotions: Feeling great. Perhaps a bit agitated at times. I have noticed certain things annoy me these days which I used to be able to ignore.

We're Having A...

What was your guess on my baby's gender?

Girl?

Boy?

If you guessed girl, you would be.....

WRONG!!!!

We are having a baby BOY!!!!!

We announced our baby's gender to our family this past weekend at our house. Our initial plan was to wait until June 6 when we were in Tennessee, but some of our family members couldn’t wait to find out what we were having. And can you blame them? Me neither.

I used this box to place a few balloons in for Matt and I to open in front of our family to reveal the gender. I was only able to fit three balloons in it opposed to having a big box with many balloons. But because I didn't want to spend money on a box, I had to work with what I had.
I think  it turned out pretty nice. Besides fitting in some balloons, it also appeared unisex which was one of my goals.

Let's talk about the balloons.
I got 4 foil ones from the Dollar Tree for $1 each. I had 'heard' online and from a friend that you could have the Dollar Tree fill the latex ones they sell with helium there as well. This was not the case for me. Luckily, there is a party store down the shopping area from the Dollar Tree where I was able to buy 3 light blue latex balloons for $1.59 each. (Kinda expensive in my opinion.)
Those are what I started with - 7 total. But then one popped while I was putting a few of them in the box. *Sigh* Down to 6 now. I hid the remaining 3 balloons until after the reveal.
Thankfully, my mom went to Kroger and bought 6 total - 3 blue and 3 pink latex balloons for $1 each. Yay! Made my blue bouquet of balloons look fuller in the end.
So note to self, buy future latex balloons at Kroger.

My mom, brother and sister-in-law were guessing it was a girl and everyone else guessed boy.
I think some of our family members were shocked. Of course, no one really cared which gender our baby ended up being. We are all just hoping for a healthy baby with 10 fingers and 10 toes.
